Great idea! Did you do any tests? Where did you find the OBD-II connector? What kind of information you intend to display?

Yes, i did.
First part (OBD -> RS232) http://www.elmelectronics.com/DSheets/ELM323DS.pdf
is working on my PDA and Laptop ( freeware software)

Connector and ELM323 i purchased on-line

If you ask where is in the car:
"The connector must be located within three feet of the driver and must not require any tools to be revealed. Look under the dash and behind ashtrays."

It seems that hardware for project is ready ?
Do you plan only show parameters, or maybe make smth like enhanced trip computer to calculate more information than standard head unit ?

I'm not sure Smile

Hi Marcin

Have you tested your OBD interface in other Corolla models,
esp. in E11 FL?

Hi Marcin

I couldn't find ELM323 on the web page you have pointed at.
Is the ELM322 equivalent to ELM323?

Hi everybody!!! I bought Corolla E12 last month and I am going to do some modifications in my car.
OBD-II project is very interesting. Good work Marcin. I have found a lot of interesting information on your web side.
I have some question about OBD-II project. I am going to change orginal Toyota radio with tape player to CD/MP3/and etc... player. Under this player I am going to mount LCD displays with OBD-II. From the other side I am affraid - lost information about fuel consumption.
Is it possibble to calculate fuel consuptin from OBD data? Did anybody implement information about fuel consumption in OBD-II project?

Yes, it's possible.
We need read two PIDs: Vss and MAF - the formula is :
MPG = (VSS * 710.7) / MAF
then we need convert it :
litres/(ers)/100km : MPG (GB) 282.5/ l/100km
litres/(ers)/100km : MPG (USA) 235.2/ l/100km

I did it as :
L/100km = (MAF * cons1) / (VSS * const2)

const1, const2 you can select in menu

Now, i'm working on much better display:
http://www.softservice.com.pl/corolla/avc/obd2v2img/

- time from engine start
- average, max speed
- aver,. max MAF values
- aver,. max fuel consumption
- current speed and rpm
- time from 0-100km/h
- auto light switch
- alarm beep & warning icon, when RPM is too high
- 2 adjustable backlight modes

Good news for me.
Your new project looks very nice and I have a lot off new questions Laughing

What kind of LCD display did you use in v2?
Are you going to public v2 on your web side when will be ready?
Will be possible to use PCB from v1 version with new software to build v2?
